Permanent makeup is not simply a makeup purchase. It places pigment into the skin, so price should be considered alongside artist registration, facility permitting, design skill, pigment records, clean technique, informed consent, healing support and the possibility that correction or removal can be difficult.

Technique names should lead to a design conversation

Ombré powder brows create a softly shaded finish. Combination brows blend hairstroke detail with shading. Nano hairstroke brows focus on fine stroke styling. None of these labels alone predicts how the healed work will look on your skin.

What a first consultation should document

1. Your goal, preferred softness or definition, and tolerance for a long-lasting result.
2. Existing brow, lip or eyeliner pigment and any prior removal or correction.
3. Relevant skin and health history, medications, allergies, cold-sore history, scarring tendency and prior reactions.
4. Technique, mapping, color family and realistic healed-result expectations.
5. Pigment brand, shade and lot-record process.
6. Practitioner registration, facility permit and infection-control practices.
7. Written preparation, aftercare, follow-up, touch-up and additional-session terms.
8. What correction or removal could involve if your preferences change.

Verify the Orange County body-art requirements

The Orange County Health Care Agency defines permanent cosmetics as body art. It states that artists performing body art must obtain a Body Art Practitioner Registration and that services may only be provided in a facility with a valid body-art facility permit. Ask to see current documentation and verify which single-use items will be opened for your appointment.

FDA guidance notes that infection can result from unsterile equipment or contaminated ink, even when hygienic procedures are followed. Clean technique reduces avoidable risk but cannot make every reaction impossible.

Touch-up cost belongs in the budget

Fresh color is not the final healed result, and a follow-up review should happen only after appropriate healing. Providers structure touch-ups differently: included, time-limited, separately priced or based on the settled result. Ask what the listed price covers, when the area will be reviewed and which situations make an additional session inappropriate.

Also ask how future color refresh, shape changes, fading, correction and removal are handled. The FDA warns that permanent makeup can be difficult to remove and that some pigments may respond unpredictably to laser treatment.

Aftercare is part of what you are buying

You should leave with area-specific written instructions and a reliable way to contact the provider. Avoid making universal assumptions about water, makeup, exercise, sun or active skincare because recommendations can differ by area, technique and skin.
